Mayor Newsom Supports Compostmodern

San Francisco prides itself on innovation—whether in developing new technologies, new products, or cutting edge environmental legislation. And it is only through innovation that we can ever hope to develop a sustainable society.
We need to rethink the way we do virtually everything, from the way we engage with our waste stream to the manner we get around town. That’s why it’s so important that the design community recognizes the importance of ecological thinking, as evidenced by Compostmodern.
Designers are literally the mediators of our daily experience. The easier my compost bucket is to use, the more comfortable my ride on the bus, and the more appealing my reusable grocery bag, the more I will participate in environmentally sound practices. Designers carry a heavy responsibility, but at the same time can offer our future the greatest gift.
San Francisco is honored to host Compostmodern 2009.
—Mayor Gavin Newsom
